Greener Homes Grant Ottawa

Important Update!

Major changes will be made to the Canada Greener Homes Initiative in 2024. All of the details of the new plan have not yet been announced but here’s what we know so far:

  • The Greener Homes Grant will no longer be available to all Canadian homeowners as of March 2024. Canadians who have already applied for the Greener Homes Grant will receive the grant but no new applicants will be accepted.
  • The Canada Greener Homes Loan will continue to provide interest-free loans of up to $40,000 to Canadians of all income levels to undertake home energy improvements.
  • The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program will continue to provide up to $10,000 to qualifying homeowners who trade in an oil furnace for a new heat pump. – Learn more
  • The next phase of the Canada Greener Homes Initiative will focus on providing programs to low-income Canadian households.
  • For more information check out National Resources Canada’s February 2024 Update.

The Greener Homes Grant is a Natural Resources Canada initiative to help Canadians save energy and make their homes more comfortable. Many of our energy-efficient heat pumps can qualify for a $6,500 grant, plus an EnerGuide evaluation worth up to $600, totalling a payout of $7,100.

What is the Canada Greener Homes Grant?

In this video Francis’s Tom Rand provides a helpful overview of the Canadian Government’s Greener Homes Grant that offers homeowners the opportunity to receive up to $7,100 in heat pump rebates when they install a new high-efficiency heat pump. Heat pumps are a great option for Ottawa homeowners even in our freezing winters and humid summers.

National Resources Canada introduced the Greener Homes Grant to support Canadian homeowners in implementing energy-efficient retrofits, including upgrading to modern, high-efficiency HVAC systems. This initiative aims to reduce the significant contribution of buildings to greenhouse gas emissions, and ultimately reduce our environmental impact.

By participating in this program, Ottawa homeowners have a unique opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint, while also enjoying the improved comfort of their home. Not to mention that switching to a high-efficiency heat pump will likely save you money on monthly utility bills! Especially since the Canadian Federal Carbon Tax will increase annually by $15 per ton between 2023 and 2030 – more than tripling the current cost!

How the Greener Home Grant works

We know the grant application process can be overwhelming! That’s why when you partner with Francis we take care of all the appointments and audits for you, keeping you informed the whole time.
Our professionals will be able to guide you through the eligibility requirements to ensure you qualify. They will also help you select a heat pump that fits the size of your home, exceeds your comfort needs and qualifies for the grant.
Our team will arrange for a trusted energy auditor to come to your home and perform an EnerGuide evaluation. This inspection is essential as it establishes the current energy efficiency of your home, and determines how much grant money you will qualify for.
With help from you energy advisor, you can apply for the grant through the Enbridge portal (you do not need to be an Enbridge customer).

Unfortunately, you will not receive any of the grant money until after the final evaluation is complete and in that time you will have to pay your contractor(s) for their work. Don’t worry! There are great options available designed to help bridge this gap.

Many contractors including Francis will offer quality financing options, which is often the quickest way to secure the required funds. These can include options for affordable monthly payments, or a deferral period without interest if you’re waiting for grant money to arrive. – Read more

Natural Resources Canada has also created a loan specifically for those participating in the Greener Homes Grant. These loans range from $5,000 – $40,000, are interest-free and have a repayment term of 10 years. This loan is completely separate from your Greener Homes Grant submission and must be applied to separately. – Learn more.

Our highly trained technicians will install your new heat pump on whatever timeline works best for you and your family. We offer 24/7 emergency service, meaning we will always be there when you need us.
After the work has been done, another EnerGuide evaluation will be scheduled to ensure all the retrofits were completed correctly. We know what is required to pass such evaluations.
With our accredited team helping you, you can be confident your application will be approved through the Enbridge portal. Finally, you will receive your cheque from NRCan.

When Francis techs installed my heat pump, there were a lot of unexpected challenges. The guys were incredibly determined and found solutions to all the unexpected road blocks. They called for backup and worked really hard until the job was done. They were professional, friendly and positive despite the challenges. They went way over and above the call of duty. I highly recommend Francis.
